From Spreadsheets to Sugar…

“At any given time, there are three places you can find me. In my studio creating all the things, on our deck bird watching (my teenage son can’t help but crack up when he see’s me with my binoculars), or in the kitchen attempting to make magic. I’ve always been a creative and love working with my hands, but sharing my art is what makes me the happiest. A large chunk of my working career, just over 13yrs, was in the retail/technology field and I always felt out of place. Just when I thought I was doomed to spend eternity in the depths of Excel, The Little Things Cake Company came to life.

Now don’t be fooled, this was far from an overnight experience. It took two years of making cakes for friends and family, lots of support from my loved ones, and MANY debates with myself to build the confidence to walk away from what I called my “real job”. Making a life altering career change at 35 with a teenage son didn’t exactly feel like the safe thing to do, but it ended up being one of the best decisions for me and our little family. Life can still be stressful, chaotic and challenging, but you gain an entirely different perspective on life when you finally find your “thing”. For the first time in 13 years, I woke up happy.

I say it all the time… I can’t express how humbled and grateful I am to have the ability to make people smile with cake! One question I’m asked a lot is “What’s your favorite cake you’ve made?”. My answer? All of them. Seriously. Whether it’s a cake for my son or a client’s brothers’ coworker, I put all my effort, love and care into each creation. The event or celebration itself isn’t a big deal to me, it’s the people that mean the most. If I can make someone feel special with one of my creations, it makes it all worthwhile.”
